All-Star Tryouts/Commitment ***Wear your Regular Season team jersey to evaluations*** “All-Star” teams are teams of specific age groups assembled to participate in the post-season Little League Tournaments. The Tournaments proceed through various levels – beginning with a District 8 Tournament, followed by a Prairies Championship, followed by a Canadian Championship (Majors, Juniors, Seniors and Big League only), with the winning Canadian team in each level going to the Little League World Series. The best known of these is the Major Baseball World Series, held in Williamsport PA and televised internationally (look for it in late August). Typically we plan on 7 or 8 teams. We have two teams at the Minor level (9, 10 yr olds); one at each of the Major and Major AA levels (11, 12 yr olds) ; one Junior and one Junior AA team (13, 14 yr olds); a Senior team (15, 16 yr olds) and possibly a Big League (17, 18 yr olds) team. Charter Divisions - Majors, Juniors, Seniors and Big League - the top team in the age group must win to advance. Win Districts to go to Prairies, win Prairies to go to Canadians, win Canadians to go to Worlds. These face shorter seasons if they don't win Districts. Minors #1 is similar but ends at Prairies. The second level teams - Minor #2, Majors AA, and Junior AA - are automatically allowed to play in the Prairies tournament without necessarily winning Districts. These Divisions end at the Prairies level. See link for info: http://www.littleleagueab.ca/2008_Tournament_Dates.xls All-Star tryouts will commence shortly. See the links for each level. The final selection decisions rest with each of the managers. We cannot announce teams until at least June 15. If your son/daughter has never been involved on an All-Star team and are considering to tryout for one of the respective teams we have listed some things to consider before making that decision: The All-Star teams will commence practice after the teams are selected and the regular season winds down in late June. During the last week of June, most of the teams will practice every night as they prepare for the opening tournaments which take place during the July long weekend. After the July long weekend the teams will commence play in the District 8 playdowns. Between games and practices, there will be only a few off days, and teams may have games and practices on weekends. This will continue until mid to late July, depending on how far the individual team advances. All-Star baseball requires a huge commitment to play, but is definitely rewarding if you love baseball. At the time you sign up for the first tryout, we request you inform the person registering you, if you will be away and unable to attend any games or practices between June 25th and August 6th. If you are away during this time period, depending when and for how long, it could have a bearing on the manager’s decision as to who makes the team. In the past we have had player’s tryout and when told they made the team, they then inform the team manager they will be unable to play because they are going away on vacation. This causes significant problems for the manager and could affect other teams. All-Star baseball is competitive. The regular season policy of equal playing time is not in effect – we follow the Little League Tournament Rules which dictate minimum playing time requirements in any given game. It is always our hope that the managers can provide as much playing time to each player as possible, while ensuring the team is competitive in each game. There is a charge of $125.00 in additional All-Star fees, which essentially covers our per-player costs. There is also a uniform deposit required. More on this when teams are picked. After considering the above, if you determine that your son/daughter should give All-Star baseball a try we will be glad to see you at the tryouts. ***Wear your Regular Season team jersey to evaluations*** Minor #1 and #2 (9 and 10 year olds) Major and Major AA (11 and 12 year olds) Junior and Junior AA (13 and 14 year olds) Senior (15 and 16 Year olds) |
